New York producer Derek Marin has been extremely busy of late, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome him back to the label with his third EP for Thoughtless. The eponymous We’ve Been Expecting You rides a chord-propelled engine through intoxicating dub-wise effects and tantalizing vocal snippets before the bass-heavy melody transports the affair to another level entirely. Following remixes with the Mole on Turbo as MHMD and releases on Fur Trade as Valerie Temple Boyd, Berlin’s Hreno steps in with a tracky reduction of the original that pushes its most vital elements to the fore, adding his own percussion injections to craft a potent DJ tool. After recently deciding to go their own separate ways, Toronto Dirtybird artists Talal & Zoi each turn in a remix of their own, Talal’s leaning on the original’s vocal snippets and pads of his own creation, while Zoi pulls the tempos down for a laid-back deep house workout. Lover East Side sees Marin mining his own unique deep house tropes: equal parts infectious rhythm, catchy sonic elements and engaging arrangement. Showcasing a veteran producer at the top of his game, we’ve been expecting a release like this from Derek all along…
