TLM063: Noah Pred – Monotasking
Featured Artists: Noah Pred, Brendon Moeller

Following recent releases on Cynosure and Highgrade, Thoughtless chief Noah Pred delivers the first dedicated release for his own label since his Blind Alignments full-length three years ago. Breaking into new artistic territory while retaining his own unique voice, Pred ambitiously explores unambiguously peak-time terrain on the two tracks featured here. Majestic yet playful, Monotasking is a 9-minute love letter to the euphoric lost dance floors of the mid-90′s written in the code of today. Merging hypnotic polyrhythms with quirky swung drums, it’s the harmonically modulated chords that carry the theme, transcending their elusively simple rhythm with an evocative narrative structure that seamlessly guides the flow of the piece before evaporating into the translucent pads of the outro – while the digital-only Acid Chapter Extension reinvigorates the percussion with a sly synth bass towards the end. With an album for Electric Deluxe on the horizon, dub techno maestro Brendon Moeller delivers two remix versions that repurpose the dynamic journey of the original chord line amongst rich analog bass and juxtaposed stabs of his own, pushing the track’s Detroit-based tendencies to the fore while making full use of the narrative potential on offer. Meanwhile, Colorchasm stands as an ode to Pred’s techno roots, massive rolling sub-bass and syncopated rhythms cyclically intertwining with his own dubbed-out guitar work as gritty echoes drift beyond the edges of the short yet expansive breakdown hinted at in the title. Pulling no punches, Monotasking is likely Pred’s most fearless work to date – with no better home than here on Thoughtless…
