TLM062: Ethan Borshansky – Hold Tight
Featured Artists: Ethan Borshansky, Miro Pajic, Brian Johnson
Our latest addition to the Thoughtless roster comes from the greater metropolitan area of New York City. Boasting years of classical music training, Ethan Borshansky delivers three tracks of deep tech-house ripe with subtle yet sophisticated nuance. Hold Tight opens with gentle chords before crisp percussion gets the evocative rhythms underway; imbued with expansive atmosphere and arranged with utmost care, the combination suggests the sensation of an effortless glide through an abandoned city. Fresh Toronto talent Brian Johnson assumes remix duties for the eponymous track, bringing powerful bass lines to the forefront, introducing vocal elements, and loosening the drums for a version that weaves through dubbed-out house like a seasoned veteran. Borshansky’s next excursion, Window 29, invokes the vast architecture implied in its title with all manner of intersecting rhythmic components, bleeps and filtered chords joining to create a structure far greater than the mere sum of its parts. One of Berlin’s busiest producers, Lazerslut boss Miro Pajic injects some deliciously paranoid funk into the proceedings with his remix, employing swung trap kits, mighty sub bass and swirling echoes to captivating effect. Closing out on a deeper note, Zag’s solid low end, warm mid-range and classic dub chords intertwine to form the perfect playful foundation for wistfully floating melodies, resulting in a compellingly modern take on the deep house format. Holding tight with high production values, creative sound design and a prodigious knack for polyrhythm, Ethan Borshansky is a promising new talent – and we’re proud to introduce him here on Thoughtless.
